Storage
All pumps are tested, inspected and protected against corrosion for the period of shipment and installation .If the pump is not to be installed at once, the pump, parts and accessories, etc., should be stored in a clean, dry location, free from temperature extremes, in an approximately level position and without distortion. Slush all machined surfaces with noncorrosive oil, inspect frequently to see that the surfaces are free of corrosion.
Foundation
The foundation should be sufficiently substantial to absorb vibration and to form a permanent, rigid support for the base plate. This is important in maintaining the alignment of a direct connected unit. A concrete foundation on a solid base should be satisfactory. Foundation bolts of the proper size should be embedded in the concrete, located by a drawing or template. A pipe sleeve larger than the bolt should be used to allow movement for final positioning of the bolts.
Alignment and Startup
- Coupling alignment: Align the pump and motor shafts using a laser tool or reverse dial indicator to prevent bearing failure.
Manual rotation: Turn the shaft by hand after coupling to verify smooth, free movement without binding. - Rotation check: Jog the motor briefly to confirm the correct direction of rotation matches the arrow on the pump casing.
- Valve sequence: Fully open the suction valve, keep the discharge valve closed or throttled during initial startup, and open the discharge slowly once pressure stabilizes

- Build a solid base: Set a level concrete foundation to support the entire weight of the pump and motor without shifting.
- Level the baseplate: Anchor the base securely, ensuring it is flat and level within tight tolerances before mounting equipment.
- Grout the base: Fill the baseplate completely with grout to eliminate empty spaces and absorb operational vibrations.
